A Kano-based businesswoman, Hajia Asabe Gamawa, is urging Muslims to use Ramadan for deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and a stronger commitment to serving God and country.
Gamawa spoke to the media after Friday prayers in Kano, emphasizing the importance of Ramadan as a time for self-evaluation and increased service. “This holy month is a profound religious experience that brings us closer to God,” she said. “Let us use this Ramadan to rededicate ourselves to our faith and to the betterment of our nation.”
Gamawa went beyond the physical act of fasting, highlighting the importance of abstaining from vices that hinder progress. “While abstaining from food and drink is a pillar of Ramadan, we must also make the greater sacrifice of eschewing vices that slow down the development of our beloved country,” she urged.
Drawing on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Gamawa described Ramadan fasting as a shield against vices. “This Ramadan, let us use this shield to protect ourselves from worldly temptations,” she said.
Gamawa’s message extended beyond the Muslim community. She appealed to all Nigerians, regardless of faith or background, to cultivate love and responsibility towards each other. “By working together, we can build a nation filled with peace and prosperity,” she concluded.
