In a recent development regarding the release of abducted Kuriga schoolchildren in Kaduna State, Bulama Bukarti, a senior analyst at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, has voiced concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the circumstances of their release.
The abduction, which occurred on March 7, sparked nationwide outrage and raised questions about the security situation in the region. Despite the children being freed, Bukarti highlighted the need for transparency regarding the events leading to their release.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Bukarti emphasized that Nigerians deserve to be informed about the details of the children’s release. He stressed the importance of understanding whether anyone was arrested in connection with the abduction, the terms of the release, or if a rescue operation was conducted.
“I have been investigating the circumstances of their release and whether anyone was arrested and what were the terms of the release or how were they rescued if they were rescued, I did not find any information to that effect,” Bukarti stated.
Furthermore, he underscored the rights of Nigerians to be informed about government actions, particularly in matters concerning security and the allocation of resources. Bukarti asserted that transparency is essential for fostering trust and confidence among citizens.
“As Nigerians, we have the right to know how our government is proceeding with securing us, how our government is using our resources and how our government is dealing with criminal elements or terrorists elements among us,” he added.
In light of these remarks, calls for accountability and transparency in government actions regarding security issues have been reignited, underscoring the importance of addressing public concerns and maintaining trust in governance.
