Suspected gunmen launched a brazen attack on a mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State, early on Tuesday morning, kidnapping a yet-to-be-determined number of worshippers engaged in midnight prayers.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the incident on his X platform account, stating that the attack occurred around 2:00 am. “Bandits sneaked into Gusau Town and abducted several worshippers in a Mosque while they were observing tahajjud (midnight) prayers,” Makama wrote.

Efforts to reach Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, for confirmation proved unsuccessful. Calls to his phone number went unanswered, and a text message sent by press time received no response.

This attack comes amidst ongoing security concerns in Nigeria’s northwestern region, where armed groups have been responsible for kidnappings, violence, and instability.
