In a move that could shake the state’s anti-corruption efforts, Muhuyi Magaji, Chairman of the Public Complaints Commission, has been suspended by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Magaji was arraigned on Thursday facing serious allegations, including breaching the code of conduct for public officials, engaging in conflicts of interest, abusing his office, and providing false information on his asset declaration. He is also accused of bribery and accepting gifts.
The Tribunal sided with the complainant, ordering Magaji to step aside from his position as Chairman while the case proceeds.
He will not be able to fulfill his duties at the Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission until the charges against him are heard and a verdict is reached.
Furthermore, the Tribunal directed the Kano State Governor and the Secretary to the State Government to appoint an acting chairman for the Commission to ensure its continued operation during this period.
Magaji’s suspension casts a shadow over the fight against corruption in Kano. The outcome of the case will be closely watched by those invested in transparency and accountability within the state government.
