Ismail Auwal, an environmental activist, has reaffirmed Make Kano Green Project’s commitment to planting one million trees in Kano state by the end of 2024.
Auwal, speaking to reporters, characterized the project as an initiative aimed at enhancing the livability of the environment, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
“Since launching in 2019, our project has documented a concerning trend: Ramadan periods seem to be getting hotter each year. This coincides with a decrease in tree cover. It’s clear that planting trees and protecting existing ones is crucial to creating a cooler environment.”
“Our project aims not just to raise awareness but also to instill a sense of environmental responsibility, particularly among the youth.”
“We encourage them to actively engage in tree planting and refrain from deforestation. Since 2019, we’ve been assisting communities in tree planting efforts, with some successfully planting thousands of trees.”
This year’s tree planting initiative commenced this week, with trees already planted in over 10 locations including Kaduna, Bauchi, and Nasarawa communities.
Mr. Auwal also provided updates on the progress, stating “our goal to plant 1 million trees. As of now, we’ve planted 7,556 trees within the past 48 hours.”
