In a recent critique, Professor Ibrahim Bello Kano (IBK) from Bayero University Kano (BUK) offered pointed observations on the book titled “Scholar’s Journey: Navigating Academia” authored by the immediate-past Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami.
Professor Bello-Kano, who teaches at the English and European Languages Department, known by his initials IBK, highlighted two key points regarding Pantami’s book.
Firstly, he noted the absence of the definite article, emphasizing that “navigating THE academia” would be the correct syntactical combination.
Secondly, IBK criticized the use of the word “navigating,” describing it as journalistic rather than educated usage, and questioned its appropriateness in a metaphorical sense.
Furthermore, IBK raised concerns about Pantami’s academic credentials, asserting that he was granted the title of Professor by a university where he had no prior teaching or administrative experience, nor was his promotion processed through the standard channels.
Concluding his remarks, IBK expressed skepticism about Pantami’s current academic activities, questioning whether he is currently involved in teaching or academic seminars following his departure from office in May 2023.
