The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed eight deaths and over 208 suspected new cases linked to an outbreak of a strange illness in Sokoto State.
Dr. Ibrahim Usman, the manager of the center, disclosed this information during an interactive session with officials from the state Ministry of Health.

The outbreak is concentrated in Isa and Sabon Birni local government areas. Dr. Usman emphasized that both the NCDC and the state government have taken prompt measures to control the spread of the unidentified disease. Samples have been collected and sent to NCDC laboratories for analysis.

Collaboration extends beyond healthcare institutions. The efforts involve government agencies, research bodies, and community stakeholders.

Hajiya Larai Tambuwal, the executive secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SSPHCDA), suggests that the complications might be linked to agricultural practices, climatic conditions, security challenges, unsafe drinking water, open defecation, malnutrition, and other environmental factors.
