Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has arrived in the United States to participate in a high-level symposium organized by the US Institute of Peace.
This three-day conference, which includes governors from nine northern states – Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Plateau – is specifically designed to address the ongoing security challenges in the region and explore potential solutions.
The intensive program aims to provide the governors with a deeper understanding of the security threats, their underlying socioeconomic causes, and possible near-term solutions to bring stability back to northern Nigeria.
The US Institute of Peace will also offer expertise on strengthening conflict prevention strategies in the region. This includes exploring non-violent approaches for engaging armed groups as an alternative path to conflict resolution.
Governor Yusuf, along with his fellow governors, will participate in discussions on policy coordination and effective management of peace and stability efforts in Nigeria.
The symposium, led by Dr. Joseph Sany, Vice President of the Africa Center for US Institute of Peace, serves as part of a broader initiative by the northern governors, particularly those from the northwest, to establish a unified regional development agenda.
