The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) advises residents to be aware of an increase in illnesses as the weather changes.
Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the HMB, said the rise in cases is due to the weather shift and high disease activity.
“The public should be cautious and visit the nearest hospital immediately if they experience any unusual symptoms,” Dr. Nagoda said in an announcement signed by the public relations officer of the board, Samira Suleiman, on Thursday.
The HMB listed several high-risk symptoms to watch for, including high fever, headache, vomiting, neck stiffness, sore throat, fatigue, and listlessness.
The press release stressed the importance of seeking medical attention and having blood tests, including malaria, complete blood count, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, PCR (potentially for meningitis), and blood culture.
Hospitals will activate Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) to handle emergencies.
People with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension are advised to consult their doctors more often during this time.
The HMB offered preventive measures to minimize health risks: drink plenty of fluids, avoid sun exposure during peak heat hours, ensure proper ventilation in sleeping areas, and avoid crowded places.
