Hausa musician Naziru Ahmad, also known as Sarkin Waka, has advised Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to prioritize road construction within neighborhoods over building more flyovers, as reported by Daily News24.
In a recent interview with DCL Hausa, Mr Ahmad commended the flyover bridges constructed by previous administrations but argued that the state now needs to focus on developing its neighborhoods.
“We are offering our advice to the government because it is our government,” he said. “They should not repeat the past projects of previous governments. Since former governor, (Rabiu) Kwankwaso, and his successor (Abdullahi) Ganduje had constructed bridges in the city, the government should now focus on road construction within neighborhoods.”
Mr Ahmad also criticized the government’s use of local government funds for Kano city’s development, arguing that it neglects rural areas.
“I don’t know what they think, but to me, it is wrong to develop the city using local government funds meant for developing rural areas,” he said. “How can you take funds from Kiru or Kura local governments and apply them to projects in the city, leaving Kiru and Kura without any projects?”
While praising the government’s efforts in rehabilitating hospitals and paying pensions, Mr Ahmad urged them to prioritize rural development.
“The government should concentrate on providing these services to the rural areas because the federal government is allocating funds to develop them,” he said.
