Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, celebrated his first year in office today by highlighting the successes of the Kano State Police Command and introducing two new initiatives.
CP Gumel conveyed this during an interactive session with journalists at Kano Police Headquarters.
According to Gumel, “It has been a privilege to serve the Kano State community. We’ve faced challenges, but through community policing and collaboration with residents, we’ve made significant strides in combating crime.”
Commissioner Gumel outlined the Command’s achievements, including arresting over 3,000 suspected criminals, reintegrating over 600 repentant thugs, restoring peace in areas previously impacted by farmer-herder clashes and political disputes, and launching a Police Duty Solicitor Scheme to provide legal representation for those entering the criminal justice system.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of community engagement, detailing initiatives like organizing football matches with reformed thugs and collaborating with local organizations.
Commissioner Gumel also announced the launch of two new initiatives: a 60-person squad specifically trained to patrol and protect schools across the state, and the Second Quarter State Police Command Magazine.
Commissioner Gumel expressed his gratitude to the Kano State community for their support and pledged the Command’s continued commitment to collaborative efforts to ensure a safer Kano State.
