The Federal Government has hinted at a new wage system based on employee productivity in the civil service.

Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha, Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), spoke to Nigerians about the agency’s purpose and mandate.

The DG explained that the system would allow workers on the same level to earn different salaries.

He emphasized that the decision is being considered because productivity is a key factor in the country’s economic growth.

“We are developing a productivity-led wage system that ensures those who are productive are rewarded for their efforts, regardless of their grade level,” he said. “Under the proposed system, employees on the same salary scale can earn different wages.”

Addressing concerns about labor involvement, he said such a policy could not be implemented without the input of organized labor.
