Zainab Nasir Ahmad, Executive Director of the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Disease and Social Vices (YOSPIS), was recently recognized for her outstanding work in gender advocacy.
Ahmad received the award during the commemoration of the International Day of Living in Peace, organized by the Arewa Youth Protection, Unity and Peace forum. The ceremony, held at the Kano State Government House, highlighted Ahmad’s role as a champion for gender equality and peacebuilding efforts within Kano State.
Presenting the award, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Husaini Gumel, commended Ahmad’s tireless dedication to promoting peace within the state. Pharmacist Ahmad Ibrahim Yakasai, also present at the event, echoed this sentiment, describing the award as a well-deserved recognition of her remarkable achievements with YOSPIS.
In her acceptance speech, Ahmad stressed the importance of promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering youth employment opportunities. She emphasized that these initiatives are crucial in cultivating a productive and empowered young generation in Nigeria.
YOSPIS’s significant contributions to peaceful coexistence in Kano through its active involvement in community policing efforts were also reported.
Miss Ahmad’s recognition and YOSPIS’s community work serve as a powerful example of the positive impact young leaders can have in promoting peace and gender equality within Nigeria.
