The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, held a crucial meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribado, at the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja. The discussion, lasting over an hour, focused on the recent upheaval in Kano following the dissolution of five emirates by the Kano State House of Assembly and the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II by the Governor.
A statement from Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, highlighted that the meeting addressed various issues concerning state and national development, as well as the peaceful coexistence of the nation.
The meeting comes on the heels of accusations against the NSA for allegedly deploying a significant military presence to protect the ousted Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. These accusations were firmly denied by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Earlier, Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, had apologized to the NSA, attributing the allegations to flawed intelligence and recognizing the professional integrity of the NSA throughout his career as an officer and anti-corruption advocate. The state issued a formal retraction and apology.
Simultaneously, Emir Muhammad Sanusi II’s six-day stay at the Kano palace saw substantial support from district heads and kingmakers, pledging their allegiance to the consolidated Kano Emirate under his leadership.
Governor Yusuf assured that Kano remains peaceful and urged residents to continue their regular activities in compliance with the law.
He emphasized the importance of his discussions with the NSA, stating, “It was a fruitful discussion between myself and the National Security Adviser. His role is critical for the harmonious existence of our nation, so I briefed him on the recent developments in Kano.”
