Ibrahim Ishaq Danuwa Rano, a veteran journalist in Kano, has resigned from Freedom Radio after sixteen years of dedicated service.
Danuwa Rano, renowned for hosting popular programs like “Barka da Hantsi” and “Kowanne Gauta,” announced his resignation today on his verified Facebook page, as reported by Kano Times.
Part of his resignation announcement stated, “I am using this opportunity to inform you that from this day, 11/06/2024, I quit working with Freedom Radio on my own decision, as a result of some personal reasons.”
Danuwa Rano added, “For 16 years as a full-time employee at this establishment, even if I didn’t say it, you know it must have been a struggle. I am always proud to be one of the journalists who became veterans, and I am grateful to the leaders of Freedom Radio Group for the opportunity they have given me to contribute to the field of journalism these years.”
In a significant career shift, Danuwa Rano also announced his move from traditional journalism to digital media. He revealed his plans to continue engaging with his audience through a new YouTube channel and social media pages.
“For those who follow the programs that I used to present, I have good news for you. You can continue to be with me on the YouTube channel called ‘Dan’uwa Rano TV,’ and my other social media pages. There are new programs that we will bring to you to educate, inform, and entertain, especially in the field of politics and other daily public affairs.”
Kano Times has learned that this is not the first time Freedom Radio has faced the loss of veteran journalists. In 2020, the station experienced a significant departure of experienced staff, including the award-winning journalist Abbas Yushau Yusuf, as well as Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, Usman Usman, Zainab Abdulrahman Mai Agogo, and others.
