Dr. Muhsin Ibrahim, a Nigerian academic at the University of Cologne, has issued a stern appeal to Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging him to shift his focus from political maneuvers to addressing the urgent needs of the people.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Monday, Dr. Ibrahim, who teaches Hausa, culture, and film at the Institute of African Studies, expressed his concerns over recent governmental expenditures that he believes do not serve the public interest.
“I reiterate that I am not a politician. However, I am a human being. I am old and, without boasting, experienced and educated enough to know what is best for the people under a leader,” Dr. Ibrahim wrote.
He criticized the governor’s decision to purchase luxury vehicles worth billions of Naira for members of the House of Assembly and the proposed ₦100 million renovation of the Nassarawa mini-palace.
“How can these projects benefit the masses that did everything to see him where he is today?” Dr. Ibrahim questioned.
Highlighting the pressing issues in Kano State, Dr. Ibrahim asked, “Are schools, hospitals, roads, etc., in Kano State better than they were before Abba took office? Has our security improved or worsened? How many jobs has the government provided?”
Dr. Ibrahim also implored Governor Yusuf to reconsider his priorities, emphasizing the need for tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation.
Dr. Ibrahim’s comments reflect a growing frustration among Kano State residents, who have seen little improvement in their daily lives despite political promises. His appeal comes at a critical time, as the governor faces increasing pressure to deliver on his campaign pledges.
“We beg of you to have second thoughts. Enough of this politicking. It’s time for work. Otherwise, 2027 will come while you are still fighting one political battle or another—to the detriment of the state.”
