Vice President Kashim Shettima’s Mother-in-Law Passes Away at 69

The mother-in-law of the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, Maryam Albishir, passed away on Sunday evening in Kano at the age of 69, after a prolonged illness.

She will be laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Kano, according to Islamic tradition.

According to a statement released on Monday morning, titled “VP Shettima’s Mother-In-Law Passes Away,” the Vice President’s spokesperson, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, announced the passing of Maryam Albishir, the mother-in-law of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to Nkwocha, Hajiya Maryam, mother of the Vice President’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, will be laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Kano, following Islamic traditions.

The deceased was described by the Presidency as an exemplary and kind-hearted mother within her community. She was also recognized for her devoutness as a Muslim.

“She was esteemed for her wisdom, compassion, and commitment to charitable causes,” the statement noted. “Many remember her as a source of guidance and support, both within her family and in the wider community in Kano.”

Nkwocha conveyed the nation’s condolences to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and their family during this difficult time, while honoring the life and enduring legacy of the late Hajiya Maryam Albishir.
