The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) unveiled a new logo, constitution, and flag as part of its efforts to enhance its electoral success.
The event, held yesterday in Abuja, was marked by the absence of some prominent party members.
Former Kano State governor and National Leader of the party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, presided over the ceremony. He explained the symbolism behind the new logo, which features an academic cap resting on a book, replacing the previous logo that depicted a basket of agricultural fruits within the Nigerian map.
Kwankwaso highlighted the significance of the white background on which the logo stands, stating, “The white background symbolizes peace, a core value of our party. Despite provocation in Kano, we have remained peaceful and urge our supporters to do the same.”
The former governor noted that the new logo would be more recognizable to supporters nationwide and hoped it would alleviate past challenges faced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in printing the NNPP logo on ballot papers.
Notably absent from the event were several federal lawmakers and state assembly members elected on the NNPP platform, including Senator Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, former Kano State House of Assembly Speaker Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Engr. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, among others. Their absence raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about internal party dynamics.
The event saw the attendance of key figures such as Kano State Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly Jibril Ismail Falgore, and Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa.
This unveiling comes in the wake of party decisions, including the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) recent affirmation of a six-month suspension of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf from the party and the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
This resolution was detailed in a communique issued in Abuja, signed by Umar Jibril and Omolara Johnson, following the NEC meeting on May 27.
