Top Zazzau Prince, Munir Ja’afaru, Visits Emir of Kano Amid Emirate Crisis

Muhammadu Munir Ja’afaru, a former Director of the Nigerian Maritime Authority and a prince of the Zazzau Emirate Council, visited the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at his mini palace in the Nasarawa area of Kano city today.

Ja’afaru, who holds the title of Madaki of Zazzau, arrived at the Emir’s mini palace amidst the ongoing crisis surrounding the Kano Emirate.

The Kano emirate crisis was sparked by the state House of Assembly’s decision on May 23, 2024, to repeal the Kano Emirate Law of 2019, which had been signed into law by ex-Governor Umar Ganduje.

The state Assembly enacted the Kano Emirate Law of 2024, reversing the division of the Kano emirate into five separate emirates: Kano, Gaya, Karaye, Bichi, and Rano. This new law consequently removed the five emirs appointed by Ganduje.

On May 24, 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf signed the new law and reinstated the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Emir of Kano.

The details of Madaki Ja’afaru’s visit have not been made public, leaving many to speculate about the purpose and outcome of the meeting.
