Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially launched the first round of the 2024 Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Week (MNCHW).
The announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the MNCHW is designed to enhance health outcomes through targeted preventive and curative measures that support the well-being of mothers and children.
He noted that the week-long initiative provides essential health services to mothers, newborns, and children via the state’s health system, reinforcing the availability of free maternal and child health services at Primary Health Centers and Secondary hospitals.
The governor reiterated the Kano State Government’s commitment to advancing health programs, including Nutrition Promotion Programs, Polio Eradication, and improvements in Routine Immunization.
He underscored his administration’s dedication to reducing maternal and child mortality rates and addressing preventable diseases such as Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs), Malaria, HIV, and Tuberculosis.
Health Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf highlighted the MNCHW’s goal of delivering comprehensive care from conception through delivery and ensuring the well-being of newborns and children under five.
Dr. Labaran expressed appreciation for Governor Yusuf’s dedication to the health sector and assured that Kano State’s health workers are committed to providing quality services.
The event also featured addresses from Alhaji Abdullahi Lamido Sanusi, the representative of the Emir of Kano and District Head of Dala, as well as representatives from development partners including NPHCDA, UNICEF, WHO, ALIVE & THRIVE, and MSF.
