The Kano State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing internal strife as a faction, led by Ibrahim Al’amin Little and Sadiq Wali, held a parallel ward congress, indicating divisions within the party.
This faction accused another group, aligned with Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, of improper practices, urging the national leadership to step in.
The Little-Wali faction claims that their congress aimed to uphold transparency and fairness in the party’s democratic procedures. They allege that key decisions are being manipulated by certain leaders, threatening party unity and success in Kano.
In a joint statement, Little and Wali expressed frustration with what they called authoritarian leadership from Shekarau and Hayatu, asserting that their congress followed party guidelines.
“We are committed to democracy and justice within the PDP. We cannot allow individuals to act as though they are above the party’s rules and procedures. We call on the national leadership to intervene,” Little stated.
The faction emphasized reconciliation efforts would succeed only if the national PDP leadership addresses the alleged imbalances.
The group urged the party’s leadership in Abuja to act quickly to prevent rising tensions from affecting preparations for the upcoming elections.
This parallel congress adds to the internal conflict within the Kano PDP, raising concerns about the party’s prospects for the 2024 general elections if unresolved.
The Little-Wali faction reaffirmed their commitment to the PDP’s principles, warning that failure to address these issues could further fragment the party’s structure in Kano.
