Reports from Plateau State have confirmed the passing of Aliyu Abdullahi Obobo, known as the “Legend from God,” who rode a bicycle from Jos, Plateau State, to Saudi Arabia between February 2021 and December 2022.
Obobo, who hailed from Nasarawa State, died yesterday after a prolonged illness at the Jos University Teaching Hospital at the age of 52, as confirmed by Kano Times.
Obobo gained recognition for his commitment to traveling on foot across various Nigerian cities, earning respect from those he encountered. His journeys symbolized resilience, determination, and a love for discovery.
In one of his adventures, Obobo traveled to Kano, where he met the former Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, a meeting that left a lasting impression on both parties.
Obobo’s spirit of exploration extended beyond Nigeria. He once undertook a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia using a bicycle, a journey that took him through multiple countries, including Sudan.
His feats earned him the reputation of an adventurer with a deep commitment to his faith and a desire to experience the world.
Social media commentator Ahmad Yakubu Maidoki remarked, “Throughout his life, Obobo’s travels were a testament to the power of human will. His legacy will be remembered not only for the distances he covered but for the inspiration he provided to countless Nigerians.”
Mr. Maidoki explained that Aliyu Obobo’s death marks the end of a life filled with passion, endurance, and an unconventional spirit.
He added, “As news of his passing spreads, many are mourning the loss of a figure who walked paths few dared to tread.”
