Mufarka Youth Development Initiative, with support from Sahel Corporate Value, has trained and provided start-up tools to 10 young people after a three-month vocational program.
The project included participants from Gwale and Fagge Local Government Areas in Kano State. They received training in skills such as sewing, barbing, and leatherwork, organized by Sunad and Zaitun Foundations.
Empowerment kits, including sewing machines, clippers, and leatherwork tools, were distributed to the trainees at the Zaitun Humanitarian Foundation Building in Kwali, Kano.
Barrister Nura Ahmad Muhammad, founder of Mufarka Youth Development Initiative, stated that the program aims to equip youth with skills and tools to start their own businesses, fostering independence and contributing to community development.
He explained that the group consisted of five leatherwork trainees, two sewing trainees, and three barbers, all provided with the necessary tools for their trades.
Barrister Nura encouraged the leatherwork trainees to produce at least five pairs of shoes, which Mufarka would buy and help sell. He also mentioned that the barbers and sewing trainees have been practicing their skills in local salons.
He also revealed plans to open bank accounts for the trainees to help them manage their profits. He urged them to use the tools effectively and provide feedback for future improvements.
Buhari Zubairu, Senior Program Officer at Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Limited, said the project aligns with their corporate responsibility to support community development and youth empowerment.
One of the beneficiaries, Aisha Abubakar from Kurna, expressed gratitude, noting that she learned sewing and fashion design and plans to use her skills to contribute to the local economy.
