The Kano State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with development partners, has organized a five-day Health Sector 2025 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) Harmonization workshop.
The event, held in Kaduna State, aims to orient stakeholders on the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), finalize the situation analysis for the 2025 AOP, and review the MDAs’ AOPs.
The workshop also seeks to validate planned activities across MDAs to avoid duplication, improve efficiency, and ensure development partners align their plans with the AOP. It aims to integrate health facilities and MDAs’ plans into a unified state-level AOP.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, highlighted the goal of aligning the MDAs’ AOPs with both the state government’s policy and the Federal Government’s SWAp project, which focuses on reducing maternal and child mortality and improving other health outcomes.
“You need to listen attentively in order to get the fullest understanding of what SWAp is meant for. By this, you will know what is expected on each MDA to effectively key in. The project has modus operandi for MDAs to follow to access the resources allocated to each state from the federal,” Dr. Labaran said.
He emphasized that Kano should remain competitive in implementing health initiatives in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s blueprint for the health sector, noting that some progress has already been made.
The commissioner expressed hope that the workshop would result in a comprehensive AOP that would meet the needs of development partners and enable the state government to provide the necessary support.
Hon. Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and a member of the Health Committee, praised the ministry for organizing the workshop, which he said would help unify activities and reduce duplication.
He assured participants that if SWAp requires legislation for implementation at the state level, the House would provide the necessary support.
