The Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of 15 victims of human trafficking, rescued by the Nigeria Police Force in Kano.
This was disclosed by NAPTIP’s Zonal Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, on Wednesday during the formal handover of the victims by the Kano State Police Command.
According to Babale, the victims, whose intended destination was Libya, were rescued from a residence in Bachirawa Quarters, Kano, by officers from the Bachirawa Division of the police.
“The ages of the victims range from 17 to 40, and they include 14 females and one male,” he said, adding that the victims hail from Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Cross River, and Ekiti States.
He expressed gratitude to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, for his support in the operation.
Babale also noted that the victims would undergo counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families. He urged parents to safeguard their children from exploitation under the guise of seeking better opportunities abroad.
He further called on the public to report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking in their communities.
