Kano Peace Committee praised the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State Branch, for their decision to suspend a planned mass action.
In a statement signed by its head of Secretariat, Amb. Ibrahim Waiya the committee commended the NMA’s leadership for their maturity, responsibility, and humanity in handling a recent conflict involving a medical professional and the Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani.
“We commend the NMA leadership for demonstrating a high level of responsibility,” Waiya said. “This decision reflects a commitment to peace and a profound dedication to public welfare.”
The Kano Peace Committee also highlighted the critical role of medical professionals in the state and acknowledged their contributions. “We share the pain of the aggrieved medical personnel and pray that Almighty Allah rewards the huge sacrifices made by our healthcare workers in serving the people of Kano State,” Waiya stated.
He urged the public to appreciate these efforts, saying, “Your sacrifice should not go unnoticed or ignored and deserves reciprocal respect.”
In his address, Waiya encouraged the NMA and healthcare workers to uphold ethical standards and prioritize patient welfare. “Let us continue to be guided by ethical principles, values, and practices,” he emphasized, “with saving lives as our top priority.”
The NMA’s decision to suspend the strike action followed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s intervention after allegations that a medical doctor had been assaulted while on duty at a Kano hospital.
Initially, the NMA had called for the Commissioner’s removal, but after discussions facilitated by the Governor, the NMA opted to pursue a peaceful resolution.
