The House of Representatives has confirmed Lt Gen Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Oluyede’s confirmation on Thursday followed the review and approval of the report from the ad hoc committee that screened him on Wednesday.

It was reported that the Senate had conducted a closed-door screening of Oluyede, led by the Senate Committee on the Army, chaired by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu sent a letter to the Senate, notifying them of Oluyede’s nomination and seeking confirmation as COAS.

Babajimi Benson, chairman of the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee, presented the committee’s screening report, noting that they had thoroughly reviewed Oluyede’s curriculum vitae and asked questions related to national security. His responses were deemed satisfactory.

Benson stated that the committee was confident in Oluyede’s qualifications and suitability for the COAS position, which led them to recommend his confirmation.

After a clause-by-clause review, the House unanimously approved Oluyede’s appointment as Chief of Army Staff through a voice vote.
