The Kano State Government has introduced measures to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts and governance system, according to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
At the 21st International Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Day in Kano, Governor Yusuf outlined reforms to promote transparency and accountability. He announced the launch of the Kano Integrated Governance Accountability System, an e-portal designed to enhance transparency in contract awards by civil servants and local government councils.
“We are determined to block systemic leakages, investigate corruption, and ensure value for public funds,” he said.
The governor also disclosed the creation of a central criminal register software aimed at improving the criminal justice system. He described the software as a tool to expedite justice and tackle corrupt practices.
The administration has proposed amendments to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law and is drafting a ‘Crime Bill’ to ensure proper management of recovered assets. Governor Yusuf stressed the need to protect human rights and combat gender-based violence as part of efforts to achieve justice and equity.
He acknowledged the roles of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the National Human Rights Commission, and other stakeholders in the fight against corruption, urging them to intensify their work.
PCACC Chairman Muhyi Magaji Rimingado described the day as a chance to raise awareness and renew efforts to fight corruption. He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to maintaining the anti-corruption drive in Kano.
