The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has called for unity and peaceful coexistence among residents as Christians across the state celebrate Christmas.
In a message released through his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Wednesday, the governor congratulated the Christian community on witnessing another festive season.
“As you relish the season, I urge you to embrace the spirit of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” Yusuf said, emphasizing the importance of unity and love in fostering national progress.
He urged residents to reflect on the teachings of Jesus Christ, which include humanity, love, honesty, kindness, and forgiveness.
“Let us reflect on the enduring spirit of humanity, love, honesty, kindness, and forgiveness that Jesus Christ preached and inculcated,” the governor noted.
Governor Yusuf mentioned his administration’s plans to improve social services and infrastructure across the state. He highlighted efforts in education, where a state of emergency has been declared to address decaying infrastructure and workforce capacity.
“The deplorable state of infrastructure in education is being reversed, and manpower is being strengthened. The sector will continue to attract priority attention,” Yusuf said.
The health sector, he added, includes the reactivation of maternal health services and the revitalisation of Multiple Micronutrients Supplements centres to combat malnutrition.
“We have reactivated routine immunisation and resuscitated maternal health and Multiple Micronutrients Supplements centres to reduce the ugly trend of malnutrition in the state,” he said.
Governor Yusuf also urged residents to support his administration’s efforts and refrain from actions that could threaten peace and security.
“Our government will work with all security agencies to deal ruthlessly with any group or individual plotting to test the strength of this administration,” he warned.
In the spirit of the season, the governor donated N20 million to selected Christian groups across Kano to support their Christmas celebrations.
“We must strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, foster unity, and stimulate love despite diversities, as that’s the only driving force to progress in the country,” Yusuf concluded.
Residents have been urged to reflect on the season’s virtues and continue supporting efforts to build a prosperous Kano.
