The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) Kano State has condemned the recent increase in tuition fees at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, calling the decision harmful to students.
In a statement signed by Comrade Abdulganiyyu Shehu Dalhatu, the Chairman of NANS JCC Kano State, the association expressed concern over the added financial burden on students already struggling with Nigeria’s economic conditions.
“This decision has caused undue hardship for our students, who are already struggling to make ends meet,” Dalhatu said. “The lack of immediate commencement of scholarships by the president has further worsened the situation, leaving many students in a precarious position.”
The statement pointed out that many students are now being forced to abandon their studies due to the inability to pay the increased fees. “This is not only a setback for individual students but also for the nation as a whole, as it hinders the development of our human capital,” Dalhatu added.
The NANS JCC Kano State is calling for an immediate reversal of the decision by the management of the university and is urging the government to intervene in the matter.
“We urge the management of Aliko Dangote University to immediately reverse this decision and engage in dialogue with us to find a solution that will ease the hardship faced by students in Kano State,” Dalhatu stated.
The association also called on the President to expedite the disbursement of scholarships to deserving students to help alleviate their financial burdens.
“The commencement of scholarships will go a long way in enabling our students to focus on their studies without the stress of financial constraints,” Dalhatu noted.
“Education is a right, not a privilege!” Comrade Dalhatu declared, urging all stakeholders to unite and ensure that students are not deprived of their education due to financial difficulties. The association remains committed to advocating for the rights of students until a lasting solution is found.
