Elder statesman and member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Bode George, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent media chat, describing it as lacking empathy for the struggles of Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, George lamented the increasing hardship in the country, citing widespread hunger and anger.
Reflecting on the tragic stampedes in Abuja, Anambra, and Ibadan during food distribution last week, which claimed 67 lives, George said the incidents highlight the growing desperation among citizens.
He accused the Tinubu administration of being disconnected from the realities faced by the masses, insisting that the President’s reforms are exacerbating poverty and causing businesses to collapse.
“Hunger doesn’t believe in your talk, you’ve got to be real,” George stated, expressing surprise at the lack of “somberness and humanity” in Tinubu’s media discussion.
The elder statesman further criticized the President’s refusal to acknowledge the economic struggles of Nigerians, noting that Tinubu’s insistence on the success of his policies rings hollow in the face of daily hardships. He described the media chat as an insensitive way to close the year.
Calling for urgent interventions, George urged the administration to reduce petrol prices and implement immediate palliatives to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians. “The current policies have impoverished the people; it’s time for immediate action,” he added.
As 2024 approaches, George’s remarks amplify growing discontent among Nigerians who continue to grapple with the effects of the administration’s economic policies.
