The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has defended the administration’s economic policies, saying he does not personally witness the level of hunger often portrayed in public discussions.
Speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, Onanuga said several government programmes and infrastructure projects were already benefiting Nigerians.
He cited improved road infrastructure, including the Ijebu-Ode-Shagamu route and the ongoing coastal highway project, which he said had significantly reduced travel time for commuters.
According to him, initiatives such as the Federal Government’s interest-free student loan scheme and low-interest loans for civil servants are helping to ease economic pressures on citizens.
“If you are a parent with children in university accessing federal loans, are they not benefiting? If you are a civil servant accessing single-digit interest loans, are they not benefiting as well?” he asked.
While acknowledging economic challenges, Onanuga maintained that public discourse often overlooks the gains recorded by the Tinubu administration.
“I don’t see the level of hunger people are talking about because I interact with people around me and regularly ask them how they are coping,” he said.
