Residents of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State are relieved following the death of a notorious bandit known as “Aljan,” who had been terrorizing the community, reports Zagazola Makama.
Originally from Niger Republic, “Aljan,” whose real name is not known, settled in Tsafe LGA after working as a motorcycle taxi operator. His job connected him with Fulani herders and led him into a life of crime.
Over time, he formed an alliance with a bandit group led by Hassan Bamamu and became deeply involved in banditry across the region.
Using his knowledge of Tsafe and its surroundings, “Aljan” acted as a guide for criminal gangs, coordinating numerous raids and kidnappings.
He was linked to several high-profile killings, including those of Anas Umar Dan Kanti, Alhaji Musa Ille, and an unnamed Navy officer.
His reign of terror ended three weeks ago when security forces neutralized him and several of his associates during a joint operation by Mada and Yandoton Daji in Tsafe LGA. The operation involved soldiers and local vigilantes, who ambushed the gang as they moved through the area.
The death of “Aljan” has brought some relief to the people of Tsafe, particularly those living along the Tsafe-Gusau road, which had been a frequent target of attacks. Residents of Bamamu village, his last known hideout, confirmed his death after viewing his remains.
