President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the National Assembly’s support over the past 19 months, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria into a prosperous nation.
The President made these remarks during a New Year visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, along with other members of the National Assembly and former principal officers, at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, emphasizing collaboration. “The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn,” he said.
He highlighted the courage and determination required for leadership, quoting a Yoruba saying: “It is only a courageous dog that will capture the animal in the bush.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio remarked, “On this journey of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you.”
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas praised the President for his collaborative approach, saying, “The National Assembly today is more united than ever. There is nothing we have ever knocked on your door to request for that you have not obliged. This is historic and commendable.”
Abbas also highlighted the administration’s efforts to address economic challenges. “Nigerians had more challenges at the beginning of 2023, but as the year ended, more food and prosperity started pouring in. We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration,” he stated.
