The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day period of sunshine and haziness across the country, starting from Saturday through Monday.
In its weather outlook released on Friday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with hazy conditions over the northern regions throughout the forecast period.
“Hazy skies with patches of clouds are expected over the North Central regions of the country throughout the forecast period,” NiMet stated.
In the southern region, the agency predicted a hazy atmosphere with patches of clouds in the morning over inland cities. Localized showers and thunderstorms are expected later in the day, particularly over parts of Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
“Localized thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa later in the day,” NiMet noted.
The agency anticipates slight dust haze over the northern states throughout Sunday, accompanied by hazy skies with patches of clouds across the North Central regions.
“Cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are expected over the inland cities in the southern region during the morning hours,” NiMet said, adding that localized thunderstorms could occur in the afternoon and evening hours in parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Abia.
Similarly, localized showers and thunderstorms are expected over parts of Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.
On Monday, NiMet forecast moderate dust haze across the northern regions, with sunny conditions interspersed with patches of cloud in North Central cities. Localized thunderstorms are expected in parts of Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Kogi during the afternoon and evening hours.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine in the morning, followed by localized thunderstorms in parts of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Bayelsa later in the day.
“People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the current weather conditions,” the agency advised.
It also warned that strong winds might precede thunderstorms in affected areas, advising the public to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
“Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations,” the statement added.
