Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru and Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has sponsored 15 bills in the House of Representatives, including one to establish the Kofa-Bebeji Entrepreneurs University.
According to him, all 15 bills he sponsored have passed the first reading. He presented the bills within one week, and the university bill has now passed the second reading.
The proposed university will focus on entrepreneurial education and aims to equip students with the skills necessary to drive economic growth and innovation in Nigeria.
Hon. Jibrin, who serves as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat, announced this on his Facebook page. The report was later confirmed by Kano Times.
The lawmaker’s legislative efforts cover various areas of national interest, including a bill to amend the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Act to strengthen regulatory frameworks. Another bill seeks to amend the Criminal Code Act to enforce stricter penalties for certain offenses, enhancing deterrence and justice.
He has also introduced a bill to amend the National Broadcasting Commission Act to improve media regulation. His proposed amendments to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission Act and the Legal Practitioners Act aim to implement economic and legal reforms, including redefining qualifications for Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
In the education sector, the bills propose integrating entrepreneurial, vocational, and technical training into school curricula, as well as amending the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Act to support STEM education, vocational training, and adult education.
Hon. Jibrin has also proposed bills addressing anti-corruption measures, drug control, freedom of information, and child protection. Amendments to the Advance Fee Fraud Act, the Dangerous Drugs Act, and the Child’s Rights Act aim to strengthen legal frameworks for a safer and more accountable society.
