Over speeding Trailer Claims 23 Lives, Injures 48 in Kano

Tragedy struck on Friday as an overspeeding DAF model trailer carrying goods and passengers lost control and crashed under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover along the Kano-Maiduguri Road in Hotoro, Kano State.

The accident claimed the lives of 23 people and left 48 others injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector, confirmed the incident, citing overspeeding and dangerous driving as the causes of the crash. According to the FRSC, a total of 71 individuals were involved in the accident.

“Casualty reports indicate that a total of 23 fatalities have been recorded, with 48 injured victims rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention,” said FRSC Sector Commander, CC UM Matazu.

Emergency responders from the FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force quickly arrived at the scene to rescue victims and clear the road. Normal traffic flow has since been restored.

“This tragic accident underscores the need for all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations,” Matazu stated.

He also condemned the overloading of trailers with goods, animals, and passengers, emphasizing the dangers of such reckless practices. “Overloading and over speeding significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes. We urge motorists to avoid such practices to prevent further loss of lives,” Matazu warned.

The FRSC has dispatched an investigation team to conduct a detailed inquiry into the crash.
