At least one person was feared trapped after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano at about 9 a.m. on Friday.
Three victims were rescued from the rubble, while emergency responders continued efforts to reach a fourth person believed to be trapped beneath the debris as of the time of filing this report.
Eyewitnesses said workers noticed signs that the building was about to collapse while they were working on the upper floor and immediately fled the site.
However, four people, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle rider, were reportedly caught in the collapse.
A construction worker, Shu’aibu Yaro, who confirmed the incident, said the engineer at the site had warned the workers after noticing signs of an imminent collapse.
“The engineer noticed signs that the building was about to collapse, so the workers immediately ran for safety,” Yaro said.
He added, “Three victims, including the security guard and one of my friends, were rescued and taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries.”
Rescue officials were still searching for the remaining victim trapped beneath the rubble at the time of filing this report.
