Kano bye-election: Police arrest 288 suspects with rifles, knives

Security operatives in Kano, comprising personnel of the Police, Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested at least 288 suspected political thugs in Shanono Local Government Area.

The suspects were rounded up in connection with the ongoing re-run/by-elections in the area as part of efforts to forestall violence at polling centres.

Spokesperson of the Kano Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons, including a pump-action rifle, locally fabricated guns, knives and cutlasses.

“Two hundred and eighty-eight suspected thugs were arrested with dangerous weapons, including a pump-action rifle, locally made guns, knives, and cutlasses during the re-run/by-elections,” he said in a Facebook post.
