The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has inaugurated mobile courts to conduct on-the-spot trials for motorists and tricycle operators who violate traffic light rules across the metropolis.
The initiative, launched on Tuesday, is in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive to enforce stricter compliance with traffic regulations and enhance road safety.
Speaking at the inauguration, KAROTA Managing Director, Mr Faisal Mahmud Kabir, said the measure was introduced to strengthen road discipline in the state.
“The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has invested heavily in installing new solar-powered traffic lights across the city. Road users must reciprocate by obeying traffic regulations,” Kabir said.
He warned that motorists and tricycle operators found flouting traffic rules would face immediate prosecution.
“From today, any vehicle owner caught violating traffic lights will be apprehended by KAROTA officials and other security personnel for on-the-spot trial in our mobile courts,” he stated.
Kabir, however, stressed that the mobile courts were not punitive.
“These courts are not meant to harass or intimidate anyone. Our primary goal is to protect lives and property while ensuring smooth traffic flow,” he added.
He assured residents that KAROTA would continue to implement people-oriented transport policies under the Yusuf administration.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has pledged full support for the initiative and expressed readiness to work with KAROTA to apprehend offenders and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
