The Kano State chapter of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has disowned comments credited to Prof. Muhammad Tukur, a member of the forum’s National Executive Committee, on President Bola Tinubu’s candidature.
Chairman of the forum in Kano, Dr Goni Faruk-Umar, made this known while addressing journalists on Wednesday.
He explained that Tukur’s remarks during a BBC Hausa interview were his personal opinion and not the official position of the ACF.
“After consultations with the national leadership and the National Chairman, we wish to state clearly that no such position has been formally taken by the forum,” Faruk-Umar said.
The chairman, who expressed displeasure over the development, recalled that a similar incident occurred before the last presidential election when another member made political statements that were wrongly linked to the forum.
“This recurrence is unfortunate and unethical, as it undermines the credibility, neutrality and unity of the ACF. We strongly condemn attempts to present personal views as the forum’s position,” he added.
Faruk-Umar maintained that the ACF remains a non-partisan socio-cultural body dedicated to promoting unity, peace, dialogue, and socio-economic development in Northern Nigeria and across the country.
He urged all executive members of the forum to maintain proper communication, respect due process and abide by the forum’s regulations to safeguard its integrity.
The chairman also called on the public, political actors and the media to disregard the BBC Hausa interview, insisting it does not reflect the official position of the ACF.
