A Katsina-based businessman, Anas Ahmadu, his seven-month pregnant wife, Halimatu, and their two-year-old daughter, who were abducted by gunmen, have been released after spending 21 days in captivity.
The victims were freed on Wednesday night following the payment of a ransom.
A relative of the family, who confirmed the development while speaking with journalists on Thursday, said a total of N50m was paid to the kidnappers before they regained freedom.
“Alhamdulillah! Anas, Halimatu, and their daughter have been released by their captors tonight. They are on their way home. But a ransom of N50 million was paid to the assailants,” the relative disclosed.
He explained that, for security reasons, the family would not reveal the location where the victims were picked up.
The family of three was abducted on August 26, 2025, at their residence in Filin Canada Quarters, Katsina metropolis.
It was learnt that the kidnappers initially demanded N600m for their release. They later reduced the ransom to N100m on September 3 before finally settling at N50m.
