The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, has handed over 450,000 seized Pregabalin capsules to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for forensic and regulatory analysis.
The consignment, packed in 60 cartons and concealed in a van, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives on Kano–Hadejia Road during a patrol operation. According to the agency, no legitimate ownership or documentation was presented for the drugs.
In a statement signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano Command, the transfer was made on Thursday in line with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies signed in November 2024.
“The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), , directed the immediate transfer of the drugs to NAFDAC to enable further testing and determination of regulatory status,” Maigatari said.
He explained that the seizure was carried out under the leadership of the State Commander, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, who reaffirmed the command’s commitment to “synchronized operations and strengthened inter-agency cooperation in line with the Chairman’s agenda.”
Receiving the items, the NAFDAC Coordinator in Kano commended the NDLEA for adhering to the MoU and assured of sustained collaboration.
“The NDLEA command has demonstrated its resolve to ensure public health and safety. NAFDAC will reciprocate by taking the necessary regulatory and investigative steps to ensure these substances do not find their way into illicit circulation,” the coordinator stated.
The NDLEA said the joint action underscores the determination of both agencies to disrupt the distribution of controlled pharmaceuticals and safeguard the public from the dangers of drug abuse.
