The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) on Saturday declared the support of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Federal Government’s ongoing reengineering of the nation’s security architecture.
The forum also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging unwavering support for his Renewed Hope Agenda and his re-election in 2027.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day meeting of the forum held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Reading the communiqué, the Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, said the meeting reviewed political, economic and social developments in the country.
Uzodimma said the governors reaffirmed that all government reforms must ultimately translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
The meeting was hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and attended by 12 APC governors, while Kaduna and Katsina States were represented by their deputy governors.
Other dignitaries at the meeting included the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa; Sen. Tokunbo Abiru; Lagos State Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Chief Tajudeen Olusi; party leaders and members of the State Executive Council.
According to the communiqué, the governors commended President Tinubu’s efforts to stabilise the economy, strengthen national security and lay the foundation for sustainable growth.
They noted reforms in areas of food security, power, transportation, infrastructure, social investment and enterprise development, and pledged to align state policies to maximise their impact on citizens.
On the prevailing economic challenges, the forum acknowledged the cost-of-living pressures and praised Nigerians for their resilience and sacrifices.
The governors resolved to intensify interventions in food production and distribution, support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth employment and social protection for vulnerable households.
“We are committed to working closely with federal institutions, the National Economic Council (NEC) and local governments to ensure no group is left behind,” the communiqué stated.
The forum also underscored the importance of infrastructure renewal and rural development, while commending Lagos State for its strides in transport reforms and urban regeneration.
The governors agreed to increase investments in roads, housing, water and sanitation, digital infrastructure and climate-resilient projects, with emphasis on inclusion of youths, women, persons with disabilities and marginalised communities.
On security, the PGF noted improved collaboration among federal, state and local security agencies, and commended the sacrifices of security personnel and community volunteers.
The forum applauded President Tinubu’s ongoing restructuring of the national security architecture and resolved to further strengthen local security systems, intelligence gathering, conflict-prevention measures and support for victims of violence.
The governors also stressed the need for national unity, inter-faith harmony and inter-ethnic understanding, calling on leaders and influencers to promote peace and discourage hate speech.
Reaffirming commitment to grassroots governance, the forum pledged to deepen reforms aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and effective service delivery at the local government level.
The governors said they would expand citizen engagement platforms, including town hall meetings and consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, labour and professional bodies, as well as youth and women groups.
The forum restated its loyalty to the APC and commended the party leadership for efforts to strengthen internal democracy and reconciliation.
“The PGF reaffirms full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Progressive governors see themselves as trustees of the people’s mandate and remain committed to delivering tangible social and economic outcomes across the federation,” Uzodimma said.
