A fire outbreak on Friday evening destroyed the newly established Career Service Center (CSC), the Central Students Union Government (CSUG) secretariat, staff offices and six lecture classrooms at the Kano State Polytechnic.
The incident occurred at about 4.00 p.m. at the School of General and Remedial Studies of the institution, according to a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs, Auwal Ismail Bagwai, for the Registrar.
“We are saddened to announce that yesterday evening, around 4 o’clock p.m., a fire incident occurred at the School of General and Remedial Studies, Kano State Polytechnic, which destroyed the newly established Career Service Center (CSC), the Central Students Union Government (CSUG) Secretariat, staff offices, and six lecture classrooms,” the statement said.
It added that the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Abubakar Umar Farouk, the Registrar, Mukhtar Ibrahim Bello, the Director of the CSC, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Abubakar, and other staff members were present at the scene.
“The Rector, alongside the Registrar, the Director of the CSC and other staff who were present at the scene, expressed their deep grief over the loss of the entire building,” it stated.
Bagwai said the rector commended the Kano State Fire Service for its prompt intervention in containing the fire.
“The Rector commended the swift response of the Kano State Fire Service, praying that Almighty Allah may prevent the recurrence of such incidents and, in His infinite mercy, replace what has been lost,” the statement quoted.
The statement noted that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
“The cause of the fire remains under investigation as management awaits the official report from the Kano State Fire Service Command,” it added.
