My Defection Is for Kano’s Interest, Gov. Yusuf Declares

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Sunday said his recent defection to a new political platform was guided solely by his commitment to place the “Kano Agenda” above personal or group interests.

This is contained in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano.

According to the statement, Yusuf said his political decisions were driven by the need to ensure sustainable development and improved welfare for the people of Kano State.

“To those of us who have defected from the NNPP, the allies we are joining, and even those who feel we have abandoned them, let us work together for the sustainable development of our state,” the governor said.

Yusuf spoke on Saturday at a Motorcycle Empowerment Programme for social media influencers drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, held at the Government House, Kano.

He said he harboured no ill feelings against anyone, stressing that his focus remained the growth of the state and the well-being of its citizens.

“My intentions are purely focused on the development of Kano and the well-being of its people,” he stated.

The governor declared that the era of disrespectful statements against leaders and societal figures was over, warning that his administration would no longer tolerate insults and divisive rhetoric.

He said the government would instead promote unity, mutual respect and economic prosperity across the state.

Yusuf also said recent collaborations aimed at strengthening Kano’s economic and political stability were yielding positive results, particularly the renewed partnership between the state government and the Nigeria Police Force in curbing crime.

On the 2027 general elections, the governor downplayed speculations, saying leadership was ultimately determined by God.

“People have already started discussing who will be the Governor of Kano State in 2027. To me, only God decides,” he said.

“However, I will continue to focus on developmental projects for the betterment of our people,” Yusuf added.

He assured that he would wholeheartedly accept whoever God eventually bestows with the leadership of the state.

The governor also urged social media influencers to use their platforms responsibly, calling on them to project the true image of Islam, which he said promotes unity, humility and peace.
