Traditional rulers in Jigawa State have commended the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, for promoting unity among traditional institutions through the organisation of a memorial lecture in honour of the late Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi.
The Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, gave the commendation during the memorial lecture and the commissioning of a digital library named after the late monarch, held in Tuwankalta, Jigawa State.
Alhaji Maje said the commissioner did a commendable job by organising the lecture, noting that the gathering of monarchs from different emirates reflected growing cooperation within Jigawa’s traditional institutions and beyond.
According to him, the initiative would help reinforce peace, stability and development across the state.
The monarch described the event as complementary to government efforts, stressing that unity among traditional rulers remained critical to effective grassroots engagement and conflict resolution.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hamim Nuhu Sanusi, son of the late monarch, expressed appreciation to the commissioner for what he described as a meaningful and lasting tribute to his father.
He said the memorial lecture and the digital library would serve as enduring symbols of the former emir’s commitment to leadership, education and public service.
“Our family and the Dutse Emirate are grateful for this honour, particularly the digital library, which will contribute to learning and preserve our father’s legacy,” Sanusi said.
Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Rtd. Col. Alhassan Muhammed, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting the traditional institution in the state.
Namadi acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in promoting unity, peace and cultural heritage, pledging continued collaboration with traditional councils to advance development initiatives across Jigawa State.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, said the event was organised to preserve the legacy of the late Emir and promote learning.
“The Emir is a renowned scholar who contributed a lot to the advancement of education in Jigawa State and beyond,” Musa said.
“He supported children of the less privileged who couldn’t afford to send their wards to school and we feel obliged to promote his legacy,” he added.
Kano Times gathered that the commissioner, who is also the founder of the Institute of Education and Development (IED), organised the first memorial lecture in honour of the late monarch by dedicating a digital library in his name.
The centre also honoured the Emir of Hadejia by dedicating a hall in his name, a move aimed at highlighting the role of traditional rulers in education and learning in Jigawa State.
The late Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi was a respected traditional ruler who reigned as Emir of Dutse for several years, during which he was known for promoting peaceful coexistence, education and community development within the emirate.
He played a key role in strengthening relations between the traditional institution and successive state administrations and was widely regarded as an advocate of moral leadership and social harmony.
Makaman Kano, Alhaji Sarki Ibrahim, alongside other Kano monarchs who were friends of the deceased Emir, graced the occasion.
