The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from his position.
Kano Times gathered on Monday that the resignation followed sustained pressure from some quarters, despite the absence of any established wrongdoing against him.
A source familiar with the development, who spoke to Kano Times on condition of anonymity, said the circumstances surrounding his stay in office had become increasingly difficult.
“Since his appointment in 2024, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman has been under intense pressure from different quarters. These distractions made it challenging for him to effectively carry out his duties, even though there was no proven case of misconduct against him,” the source said.
Recall that in October last year, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited and questioned the NAHCON chairman over allegations bordering on a multi-billion naira fraud.
However, the source maintained that the allegations did not lead to any finding of culpability against him.
“He was investigated, but there was nothing to indict him. Despite that, the pressure did not stop,” the source added.
As of the time of filing this report, neither NAHCON nor the Federal Government has issued an official statement on the resignation or announced a replacement.
