The Kano State Government has resolved the long-standing Right of Way (RoW) dispute that stalled the completion of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) power line linking Kumbotso Sub-station to Rimin Zakara Sub-station.
The State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Engr. Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Sa’ad Umar Faruk.
According to the statement, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved a negotiated settlement running into billions of naira to compensate all verified claimants affected by the transmission project.
Dr. Gaddafi also revealed that the governor approved the allocation of plots of land to about 750 individuals and households involved in the dispute as part of a comprehensive resolution package.
He described the development as a clear demonstration of the present administration’s resolve to tackle inherited challenges while prioritising the welfare of the people.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency for this compassionate and people-oriented decision, and we pray for Allah’s continued guidance in his leadership,” the commissioner said.
He further commended the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar, for what he described as his invaluable support and collaboration, which contributed immensely to the successful resolution of the matter.
The breakthrough is expected to fast-track the completion of the TCN transmission line, a development the government said would lead to improved electricity supply, economic growth and enhanced industrial activities across Kano State.
The commissioner also advised members of the public to desist from erecting structures close to high-voltage power lines, stressing that such actions pose serious risks to lives and property.
Kano Times reports that the resolution of the RoW dispute removes a major obstacle to the completion of the Kumbotso–Rimin Zakara transmission project, which is considered critical to strengthening power supply in the state.
