The Kano State Police Command has summoned Premium Times reporter Abubakar Ahmadu Maishanu to appear at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the command’s headquarters in Bompai.
In a letter addressed to the newspaper and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muhammad Jarma, the command stated that Maishanu is required for an ongoing investigation.
The letter read in part, “Pursuant to Section 26 of the Police Act, I have been directed to request that you release Abubakar Maishanu to appear at the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with an ongoing investigation. Upon his arrival, he should proceed directly to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Jarma.”
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said he had not been briefed on the matter. Maishanu confirmed he will honour the invitation on Thursday morning.
The summons comes after Maishanu’s detailed report exposing alleged multi-billion-naira fraud linked to Dala Inland Dry Port.
The investigation revealed how former Kano State Governor and APC Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje allegedly transferred the state government’s 20% stake in the port to private hands, including making his children co-owners, before awarding a ₦4 billion infrastructure contract for the project.
